Nicest Thing

You're the nicest thing I've seen

I wish I was your favourite girl
I wish you thought I was the reason you are in the world
I wish my smile was your favourite kind of smile
I wish the way that I dressed was your favourite kind of style

I wish you couldn't figure me out
But you always wanna know what I was about
I wish you'd hold my hand when I was upset
I wish you'd never forget the look on my face when we first met

I wish you had a favourite beauty spot that you loved secretly
'Cause it was on a hidden bit that nobody else could see
Basically, I wish that you loved me
I wish that you needed me

I wish that you knew when I said two sugars
Actually, I meant three
I wish that without me your heart would break
I wish that without me you'd be spending the rest of your nights awake

I wish that without me you couldn't eat
I wish I was the last thing on your mind before you went to sleep
All I know
Is that you're the nicest thing I've ever seen

I am not at work this weekend. I am instead sitting studying like hell for this energy metabolism test on Monday. To be frank, I’m pissed off with my work. They still haven’t changed my hours, despite the fact I asked for it months ago to fit with my uni timetable and now that uni has only one week left, it’s been a completely pointless expedition as my timetable will be different in January and I won’t have a clue when I’ll be able to work. And the fact the phones are really busy and people have left the group and no more have been employed to replace them so those left are having to do extra work.

I’m also annoyed with uni and all the work that comes with it. I’m trying to prioritise and just do my lectures and stuff but having your own flat and kittens comes with its chores that also must be done. So I’m caught up with millions of uni work and the fact that when Jamie has been at work all day; he expects to come home and the household chores are done, the cats are fed and dinner is on the table seeing as I’ve been at home all day with “plenty” of time to do all this.

I want exams to be over, I really do. Christmas will be good!

The Sunscreen Speech

Ladies and Gentlemen of the class of 99...Wear sunscreen

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, sunscreen would be it. The long term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience. I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you cant grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked...Yore not as fat as you imagine.

Don’t worry about the future; or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubblegum. The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind; the kind that blindside you at 4pm on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing everyday that scares you

Sing

Don’t be reckless with other peoples hearts, don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Floss

Don’t waste your time on jealousy; sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind...the race is long, and in the end its only with yourself.

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old love letters, throw away your old bank statements.

Stretch

Don't feel guilty if you don't know what to do with your life...the most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their lives, some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don't.

Get plenty of calcium

Be kind to your knees, you'll miss them when they're gone.

Maybe you'll marry, maybe you wont, maybe you'll have children, maybe you wont, maybe you'll divorce at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken on your 75th wedding anniversary...what ever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much or berate yourself either - your choices are half chance, so are everybody else's.

Enjoy your body, use it every way you can...don't be afraid of it, or what other people think of it, its the greatest instrument you'll ever own.

Dance...even if you have nowhere to do it but in your own living room.

Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.

Do NOT read beauty magazines, they will only make you feel ugly.

Get to know your parents, you'll never know when they'll be gone for good. Be nice to your siblings; they are the best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.

Understand that friends come and go, but for the precious few you should hold on. Work hard to bridge the gaps in geography in lifestyle because the older you get, the more you need the people you knew when you were young.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths, price will rise, politicians will philander, you too will get old, and when you do you'll fantasize that when you were young prices were reasonable, politicians were noble and children respected their elders.

Respect your elders.

Don't expect anyone else to support you. Maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse; but you never know when either one might run out.

Don't mess too much with your hair, or by the time its 40, it will look 85.

Be careful who advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than its worth.

But trust me on the sunscreen...

This song, titled "Wear Sunscreen" is actually formed from an essay titled "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young" written by Mary Schmich for the Chicago Tribune in 1997.

Anyway. Life is complete. Jamie and I adopted two kittens from the Cats Protection Agency last Wednesday. Bailey, a fluffy orange tiger, and Cassie, a pretty little girlie. They're utterly adorable and I love them to pieces. Yes they are pretty annoying as they leap around, scratch things they shouldn't, race up and down the corridor, chase each other and whine for us to play with them. Bailey gets far too carried away with playing with his mouse and actually GROWLS! I did say he was a bit of a tiger! And Cassie is just stupid to be honest, always falling over and running into walls and stuff!

Money Money Money...

We have been spending money this week like it's going out of fashion. We bought a sexy new fridge freezer yesterday. Click here to see it! So that was £350 odd and it's being delivered on the 21st which is just as well considering our resident fridge is making what I can only describe as "growling" noises. It's not a happy fridge, not to mention the fact it has become incontinent and is pissing water all over the floor. We also almost bought a rug, a rug we've already tried to purchase twice and been told to come back when the delivery is due, and we were back today to be told the same story... Delivery didn't show up. And since they refused to give us any discount for our inconvenience, we told them to shove it. In a slightly more polite way.

Getting into the festive spirit, we spent over £150 on Christmas decorations today. We've reserved a tree that Hazel is picking up for us, and have bought a lovely array of red and gold decorations to match our living room decor. We've also got a wreath for the door and one of those Jewish candle things... I forget what they're called. We drove all the way to Cumbernauld. YES CUMBERNAULD! To look at these decorations in Dobbies garden centre and felt like such old farts donnering around a garden centre in the middle of the day! We honestly were the only people there under 60!

I'm now sitting writing up some lecture notes as I have a horrific week in a couple of weeks where I have a test/lab/post-lab EVERY DAY. That's just cruel. And it's scary to think that we only really have about 3 weeks left of lectures before exams are looming and semester 1 is in the past.

Anyway, this was just a quick update, I shall be getting back to my studying :)
